Sniper opens fire on Dallas ICE facility, killing 2 detainees, wounding 1: DHS

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday morning when a sniper targeted the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office, resulting in the death of two detainees and critical injuries to a third. Initially, Dallas police reported one fatality and two wounded individuals, but the Department of Homeland Security later confirmed the updated casualties.

The shooter, positioned on a nearby rooftop, indiscriminately fired at the ICE building, including a van in the sallyport where the victims were located. Tragically, the shooter succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The FBI is treating the shooting as an act of targeted violence, with evidence suggesting anti-ICE sentiments linked to the perpetrator.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared images of recovered unspent shell casings, one of which bore the inscription “ANTI-ICE.” Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security released a photograph depicting bullet holes in an American flag display, further emphasizing the targeted nature of the attack.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions surrounding ICE’s deportation activities and a surge in assaults against ICE officers. In recent months, Texas has witnessed similar violent acts targeting law enforcement, underscoring the need for heightened security measures and vigilance.

Federal officials have condemned the attack, emphasizing the need to curb politically motivated violence and protect the safety of law enforcement personnel. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem denounced the shooting as a manifestation of hatred towards ICE, urging a cessation of hostile rhetoric that may incite such acts.

Dallas ICE official Joshua Johnson and Senator Ted Cruz echoed these sentiments, calling for an end to violence and emphasizing the importance of fostering a safe environment for law enforcement operations. Patel reinforced the need to address these despicable attacks and ensure the safety of ICE facilities and personnel.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced heightened security measures to safeguard agents and civilians involved in ICE’s mission. As the investigation unfolds, updates will be provided to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
