SNL’s Holiday Edition Has The Grinch, Scrooge & More
On the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live,” the show put their own spin on Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series with a sketch called “Characters on Characters.” Hosted by Josh O’Connor, the sketch featured iconic holiday characters engaging in in-depth conversations about their craft.
Rudolph and A Partridge in a Pear Tree discussed their experiences as holiday icons, with Rudolph revealing he had no formal training before pulling Santa’s sleigh. The Grinch and Scrooge talked about shooting on location in Whoville and the iconic words written by Charles Dickens, respectively. Little Drummer Boy and Tiny Tim shared stories about their famous lines, while Mrs. Claus and The Grandma from “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” joked about mortality.
The sketch spoofed the serious tone of “Actors on Actors” interviews, injecting humor and seasonal pop culture references throughout. O’Connor, who hosted the episode, was joined by musical guest Lily Allen.
In the world of “Actors on Actors,” this season’s pairings include Ariana Grande and Adam Sandler, Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, Dwayne Johnson and Brendan Fraser, Oscar Isaac and Teyana Taylor, and Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio. The series is now in its 23rd edition and has recently partnered with CNN for exclusive premieres on their streaming platform before airing on Variety‘s YouTube channel.
