‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Pilot Adds Three to Cast (EXCLUSIVE)

FX’s “Snowfall” Spinoff Pilot Adds Three New Series Regulars
The highly-anticipated “Snowfall” spinoff pilot at FX has recently announced the addition of three new series regulars, as reported exclusively by Variety. Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III have all joined the cast alongside previously announced leads and original series alums Gail Bean and Isaiah John. The pilot order was first reported by Variety back in March. While Bean and John will be reprising their roles from the original series, details about the characters played by the new additions are being kept under wraps.
The official logline for the pilot sets the stage for the upcoming series, stating, “Set in 90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.”
Asante Blackk, known for his Emmy-nominated role in Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” on Netflix, brings his talent to the new project. He has also appeared in popular shows like “This Is Us” and will be seen in the upcoming season of “Euphoria” on HBO. Blackk has showcased his skills in various films as well, including “Story Ave” and “Landscape with Invisible Hand.”
Peyton Alex Smith, who has previously starred in spinoffs like “All American: Homecoming” and “Legacies” on The CW, is another exciting addition to the cast. His work in shows like “BMF” on Starz and “The Quad” on BET has garnered attention. Smith was also part of Kathryn Bigelow’s film “Detroit.”
Simmie Sims III, also known as Buddy in the music industry, has made a name for himself with collaborations with top artists like Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, and Miley Cyrus. His debut album “Harlan & Alondra” received critical acclaim in 2018. Sims has also ventured into acting, appearing in shows like “Rap Sh!t” on Max and “Bel-Air” on Peacock.
The spinoff pilot will be written and executive produced by Malcolm Spellman, with “Snowfall” alums Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson serving as executive producers as well. FX Productions is backing the project. “Snowfall,” created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, originally explored the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA through the eyes of various characters. The show ran for six successful seasons on FX from 2017 to 2023.
