Soft-on-crime NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani got an F in burglary in college
Zohran Mamdani, the socialist mayoral frontrunner in NYC, recently made headlines for an old college incident where he and a friend stole a table while studying at Bowdoin College in Maine. Mamdani confessed to the theft in a 2011 column for The Bowdoin Orient titled “Idiots Steal Table,” revealing that he had been eyeing the piece since his freshman year.
The “crime” was premeditated, with Mamdani and his friend planning to “borrow” the table for a few nights by carrying it from one building to another in broad daylight. However, their getaway was not as smooth as they had hoped, as the college’s security caught them on camera. Mamdani received a call from Randy Nichols, a retired Maine State Trooper who oversaw the college’s security, asking about the missing table.
Mamdani confessed to the theft and acknowledged his mistake in the column, expressing his admiration for Nichols and his willingness to face the consequences. Despite the incident, Mamdani graduated from Bowdoin College in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Africana studies.
It remains unclear whether Mamdani faced any punishment for the theft, as Nichols did not respond to requests for comment. Mamdani’s representatives also did not provide any comments on the matter.
The story of Mamdani’s table theft serves as a reminder of his past missteps and the importance of owning up to one’s mistakes. As Mamdani continues his political career, this incident may resurface as a point of contention for his opponents.
