Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones Confirmed with New Price, Design & Features

Sony has finally unveiled the highly anticipated WH-1000XM6 noise cancelling headphones, which are expected to be the top contenders for best headphones in 2025. The release of the XM6 comes after a longer wait than usual, with Sony typically launching a new model every two years. The previous 5-star XM5 model was released back in May 2022, making fans eager for the next iteration in the 1000X series.
Sony is touting the XM6 as the next evolution of noise cancelling, boasting its most advanced noise cancelling technology to date. This is made possible by a next-gen chipset and intelligent algorithms that work together to block distractions before they reach the listener. The HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 chip is seven times faster than its predecessor and can fine-tune a total of 12 microphones, providing improved adaptability to fit and environment.
In terms of audio quality, Sony has equipped the WH-1000XM6 with specially designed drivers featuring a high rigidity carbon fibre composite material dome and a uniquely developed voice coil structure. The company has collaborated with Grammy-winning and nominated engineers to ensure that the sound quality meets the standards set by the artists themselves. Features like High-Resolution Audio Wireless, LDAC, and DSEE Extreme are also confirmed to be included.
The design of the WH-1000XM6 offers a mix of familiarity and innovation, with a wider headband made of vegan leather and stretchable earpads for a secure yet comfortable fit. The headphones feature an updated folding mechanism with a metal injection construction and come with a carry case that now features a magnetic closure.
A standout feature of the XM6 is Scene-based Listening, which utilizes sensing technology to automatically adjust music playback based on the user’s activity and surroundings while fine-tuning the noise cancelling level. The headphones also offer faster USB-C charging, with just three minutes of charging providing up to three hours of usage.
However, the WH-1000XM6 does come with a downside – a price increase. Sony has confirmed that the headphones will retail for £400, marking a £20 increase from the previous model. The XM6 is set to go on sale this month, offering Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue color options right from the start.
Overall, the Sony WH-1000XM6 promises to deliver exceptional noise cancelling capabilities, top-notch audio quality, and a range of innovative features that set it apart as a top contender in the world of headphones in 2025.
