Sophie Cunningham fined again after Paige Bueckers comments

Sophie Cunningham found herself in hot water with the WNBA once again, as she revealed on her podcast that she has been fined by the league for all three episodes of her show since its debut this summer. The Fever star shared the news with her podcast partner, West Wilson, during the latest edition of the show.

The journalist from Complex was taken aback by the revelation and asked if the fines were related to her comments on the podcast. Cunningham responded by saying that the league didn’t like her remarks about Paige Bueckers, the 2025 first overall pick by the Wings, during an episode released on Aug. 13. In the episode, Cunningham criticized the officials for giving Bueckers favorable treatment during a game between the Fever and the Wings on Aug. 12.

Despite clarifying that she admires Bueckers as a player and would love to play with her in the future, Cunningham expressed frustration at the referees for seemingly favoring Bueckers with every call. This led to the WNBA imposing fines on Cunningham for her comments.

This isn’t the first time Cunningham has faced disciplinary action from the league. She previously received a $500 fine for a TikTok post where she appeared to criticize WNBA officials while lip-syncing to a song by Sabrina Carpenter. Additionally, she was fined $1,500 for comments made during the debut episode of her podcast.

Unfortunately, Cunningham’s season came to an abrupt end when she suffered a knee injury during a game against the Sun. Prior to the injury, she was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

Despite the setbacks, Cunningham remains a prominent figure in the WNBA and continues to voice her opinions through her podcast. Her willingness to speak out on issues within the league showcases her passion for the game and her commitment to driving positive change.
