Soulja Boy arrested on firearm possession charges during LA traffic stop
Rapper Soulja Boy was taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday morning after police discovered a firearm in a vehicle during a routine traffic stop in Los Angeles. The 35-year-old artist, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in the vehicle that was pulled over around 2:30 a.m. in Melrose, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
Law enforcement officers spotted the gun inside the vehicle and subsequently arrested Way on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The reason for the traffic stop has not been disclosed at this time.
This recent incident comes on the heels of a legal battle for Soulja Boy. In April, a jury awarded $4.25 million in a civil trial against the rapper for sexual assault allegations made by a woman he used to live with, according to Courthouse News.
It remains unclear whether Soulja Boy has been released from custody or if he has sought legal representation in this matter. The Los Angeles Police Department did not provide any additional information in response to inquiries from the media.
The arrest of Soulja Boy has once again put the spotlight on the rapper, known for hits like “Crank That,” and his legal troubles. Fans and followers will be waiting to see how this latest development unfolds for the controversial artist.
