South Carolina State University on lockdown after reported dorm shooting
South Carolina State University’s campus was placed on lockdown on Saturday night after reports of a shooting at the Hugine Suites residence hall. The university issued a notice on their website alerting students and faculty to the situation.
At this time, there have been no reports of any injuries resulting from the incident. The State Law Enforcement Division has been called in to investigate the shooting further.
Students residing in the Hugine Suites dormitory were advised to remain in place, while others were instructed to stay away from the area and return to their own residence halls. Additionally, individuals not affiliated with the university were asked to leave the campus entirely for safety reasons.
As a result of the lockdown and ongoing investigation, a homecoming concert that was scheduled to take place on Saturday night has been canceled. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott released a statement expressing concern for the safety of those on campus and assured that his office is closely monitoring the situation.
