State Department confirms Foreign Service Officer is suspect in Virginia ‘road rage’ mass stabbing

The State Department confirmed that the suspect in a tragic highway road rage incident on Sunday was a Foreign Service Officer. The incident, which took place in Fairfax County, Virginia, resulted in the death of one woman, Michelle Adams, and a dog, as well as injuries to several other women.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean, allegedly stabbed Michelle Adams, Dana Bonnell, Mary C. Flood, and Heather Miller following a crash on I-495 southbound. The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. in Fairfax County, just 30 minutes from Washington, DC.

Authorities have stated that the stabbing was not believed to be terrorism-related and followed a crash. When a Virginia State Police trooper arrived at the scene, Llamado confronted the officer with a knife, leading to the trooper shooting the suspect in self-defense. The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Northern Virginia office issued a statement confirming the closure of I-495 and 495 Express Lanes southbound past Gallows Road due to the major incident.

The State Department expressed condolences to all those affected by the tragedy and deferred further details to the ongoing investigation led by the Virginia State Police.
