Netflix Announces Three Exciting New Series for Its 10th Anniversary in Japan

To celebrate its 10th anniversary in Japan, Netflix has announced three new series that are sure to captivate audiences worldwide. Among these highly anticipated shows is the anime adaptation of “Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” based on Araki Hirohiko’s beloved manga series. Set in 19th century America, the story follows former jockey Johnny Joestar and mysterious outlaw Gyro Zeppeli as they compete in a cross-continental horse race. Director Kimura Yasuhiro expressed his excitement for being entrusted with directing this adaptation, promising a production filled with passion and dedication.

With over 120 million copies sold worldwide, the “JoJo” franchise has become a cultural phenomenon since its debut in 1986. Fans can expect more details about the anime adaptation to be unveiled at a special event on Sept. 23.

Joining the lineup is a comedy series starring Cannes Film Festival best actor winner Yakusho Koji. Titled “Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?,” the show explores the entertainment industry’s obsession with fame and recognition. Yakusho plays the role of Takasegawa Gen, a Japanese actor who returns home after achieving acclaim at London’s Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, only to find himself forgotten by the world. Screenwriter Kudo Kankuro and producer Isoyama Akira, known for their work on Netflix hits like “Let’s Get Divorced” and “Extremely Inappropriate!,” collaborate once again to bring this meta-theatrical story to life.

The third series, “Straight to Hell,” delves into the life of Japan’s most notorious fortune-teller, Hosoki Kazuko. Erika Toda takes on the challenging role, portraying Hosoki from age 17 to 66 as her mysterious past is revealed. Directed by Takimoto Tomoyuki and Ohba Norichika, the series promises to offer a glimpse into the dark and intriguing world of this enigmatic figure.
