Stephen Colbert Shares Whether A 2028 Presidential Run Is In The Cards

Stephen Colbert, host of the “Late Show,” recently discussed the possibility of running for president in 2028.

During Slate’s “Political Gabfest” 20th anniversary show, Colbert, 61, joked that he “absolutely” shouldn’t consider a presidential bid.

Colbert mentioned to the audience that he would need to consult with his faith leader and family to determine if he could serve the nation once his time on the “Late Show” concludes in May.

With a career spanning over two decades on “The Colbert Report” and the “Late Show,” Colbert is preparing for the final stretch of his time at CBS after the network’s surprising decision to cancel the show earlier this year.

The cancellation came shortly after Colbert mocked Paramount’s settlement with President Donald Trump, which was followed by a merger with Skydance requiring approval from the Trump-friendly head of the FCC.

While CBS cited financial reasons for the cancellation, critics viewed it as politically motivated. Colbert, known for his criticism of the president, acknowledged the public’s reaction but refrained from delving into the political aspect himself.

In a statement to E! News in September, Colbert acknowledged the upcoming end of the “Late Show” and expressed his intention to cherish every moment in the final months.

He emphasized his dedication to the show and his team, aiming to deliver quality content until the end of his tenure. Colbert expressed gratitude for the opportunity to entertain the audience and work alongside his colleagues.
