Still no answers 3 months after NYC designer Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra found dead on Montauk boat
More than three months have passed since the tragic death of Manhattan fashion designer Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra on a boat at the Montauk Yacht Club in Long Island. Despite initial speculations of a possible overdose, Suffolk County police have yet to determine the exact cause of her death.
Initial reports suggested that Nolan-O’Slatarra may have died from an overdose, as no signs of violence were found at the scene and a white powdery substance was discovered nearby. However, police have been tight-lipped about the details of her death, even denying requests for public documents related to her autopsy and toxicology reports.
The family’s attorney, Arthur L. Aidala, expressed frustration over the lack of information, stating that they have not seen a full toxicology report or been given a final cause of death. He also refuted claims that the designer was known to use drugs, adding that “something doesn’t make sense here.”
Despite the lack of concrete answers, Aidala assured that the district attorney’s office is working diligently to uncover the truth behind Nolan-O’Slatarra’s death. He emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.
On the night of her death, Nolan-O’Slatarra was at the yacht club for a meeting with Chris Durnan, a local figure who owned the boat where she was found. Durnan, who owns a stake in her swimwear fashion company, East x East, had reportedly met with Nolan-O’Slatarra and her business partner to discuss the brand’s expansion.
Text messages obtained by New York Magazine revealed that Durnan had suggested a meeting to discuss financial matters, prompting speculation about a potential motive for the meeting. Durnan’s erratic behavior following Nolan-O’Slatarra’s death, including running around the yacht club naked and throwing sunscreen at boats, raised further questions about the events leading up to her passing.
Durnan, who operates an insurance company in Rockville Centre, has remained silent in response to media inquiries about the incident. The Post has continued to seek access to the autopsy and toxicology reports in hopes of shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Nolan-O’Slatarra’s untimely death.
