Stranger slashes man, 21, in unprovoked attack on NYC subway train: cops
A horrifying incident occurred late Thursday night on a southbound No. 6 train in the Bronx, where a 21-year-old man was viciously attacked by a stranger. The young man was slashed in the face with a sharp object in what appeared to be an unprovoked assault at the Zerega Avenue station around 11:45 p.m.
The victim, left bleeding on the train, managed to get off at the Castle Hill Avenue stop where he promptly called 911 for help. Officers arrived at the scene and the injured man was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The assailant, described as a man in his 20s with braids, wearing a black hoodie and standing at about 5-foot-5, fled the scene and was still at large as of Friday. Despite efforts to locate the suspect, he had managed to evade capture.
This shocking attack comes just days after another disturbing incident in a Brooklyn subway station, where an 85-year-old man was assaulted by a stranger. The elderly man was waiting for a Manhattan-bound J train at Broadway Junction when he was pushed, punched, and kicked by the assailant, identified as Jeffrey Joseph, 39. Joseph was apprehended by authorities and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
These recent acts of violence serve as a grim reminder of the dangers that can lurk in public transportation spaces. It is crucial for authorities to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of all commuters, and for individuals to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times.
