‘Stranger Things’ Star Jennifer Marshall On Not Returning for Season 5
Actress Jennifer Marshall Opens Up About Cancer Diagnosis and Absence from “Stranger Things” Season 5
After portraying Max’s mother Susan Hargrove in Seasons 2 and 4 of “Stranger Things,” actress Jennifer Marshall took to social media to share her disappointment about not appearing in the show’s final season. Marshall revealed that the decision coincided with her cancer diagnosis, which she was battling during the filming of Season 4.
Season 4 concluded with Max in a coma at the hospital, with her mother Susan notably absent. Marshall expressed her disappointment at not being included in Season 5, especially since it would have helped her with health insurance through the union.
Despite being in remission during the shooting of Season 5, Marshall pointed out that her absence might have been due to the show’s decision to focus on other characters. She humorously mentioned on social media that Susan Hargrove is “THE WORST MOTHER EVER,” in a light-hearted manner.
In an interview with Variety, Marshall clarified that her social media post was meant in jest and that she holds no ill will towards anyone involved in the show. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the previous seasons of “Stranger Things.”
Marshall also shared her experience of filming Season 4 while undergoing cancer treatment, including needing a wig for her role. She expressed gratitude towards her co-star Sadie Sink for her kindness and compassion during this challenging time.
As the “Stranger Things” finale aired on New Year’s Eve, Marshall took to Instagram to ponder the absence of her character and engage with fans about their theories regarding Susan’s whereabouts.
Marshall’s openness about her cancer diagnosis and her positive experience on set with the show’s creators highlight her resilience and dedication to her craft. Despite not being part of the final season, Marshall remains grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the “Stranger Things” series.
Aside from her role in “Stranger Things,” Marshall has appeared in various TV shows and films, showcasing her talent and versatility as an actress. Her courage in sharing her journey with cancer serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
