Suspect in custody after shooting CPD sergeant, second victim nearby
A shocking incident occurred on Saturday night on Chicago’s Far South Side, where a man allegedly shot a Chicago police sergeant and a 63-year-old woman. The preliminary information suggests that the same suspect is responsible for both shootings.
The incident took place around 11:11 p.m. in the 11200 block of South Corliss Avenue in the Pullman neighborhood. The police sergeant, who was traveling in a marked patrol car, was shot in the leg by a man in another vehicle who opened fire in her direction. Fortunately, she was transported to Christ Hospital and is currently in good condition. The gunman managed to flee the scene before officers could apprehend him.
Shortly after the first shooting, police received a call about a 63-year-old woman who had been shot in the 11300 block of South Indiana Avenue. The victim, who was inside a residence at the time, was shot by a known man before he fled the scene. She sustained gunshot wounds to the foot and buttocks and was also taken to Christ Hospital, where she is listed in fair condition.
Officers were able to locate the suspect at a nearby gas station and took him into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the suspect allegedly confessed to shooting at the sergeant. As of early Sunday morning, no charges had been announced.
This incident highlights the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis while serving and protecting their communities. It also serves as a reminder of the need for swift and decisive action to apprehend individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
