Suspect killed by security guard after shooting at church in Michigan

Gunman Opens Fire at Michigan Church Service

WAYNE, Mich. — A gunman opened fire during a service at a suburban Detroit church on Sunday, injuring at least one person before being fatally shot by a security guard, according to police reports.

The incident took place at Crosspointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, a city located just outside of Detroit, at approximately 11 a.m. The church’s pastor, Bobby Kelly Jr., confirmed the details to the Detroit News.

Authorities stated that one individual sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Pastor Kelly shared that a quick-thinking church member used his truck to run over the gunman, allowing the security guard to take action and neutralize the threat. The security guard, who was shot in the leg during the altercation, was the only other person injured in the incident.

Approximately 150 individuals were present at the service when the shooting occurred, Pastor Kelly mentioned.

Efforts to reach out to the Wayne Police Department, the church’s voicemail, and the church’s Facebook page for further comments were unsuccessful as of Sunday morning.
