Tabitha Peterson and US women reach Olympic curling semis with win over Switzerland

The United States women’s curling team secured a spot in the semifinals at the Milan Cortina Olympics after a thrilling 7-6 victory over Switzerland. The match went into an extra end, with the Americans coming out on top. They will face Switzerland again in the semifinals, while Sweden will take on Canada, who advanced earlier in the day.

Led by skip Tabitha Peterson, the American team displayed nerves of steel in a tense game against the Swiss. Switzerland managed to tie the score at 6-6 in the 10th end, but the U.S. held their nerve in the extra end to clinch the win.

On the men’s side, Canada will face Norway, while Switzerland will take on Britain in the semifinals. Canada’s Brad Jacobs expressed confidence ahead of the match, drawing on his team’s experience and past successes.

Meanwhile, Sweden enters the semifinals with the best record at 7-2, followed by Switzerland, the U.S., and Canada at 6-3. American curler Cory Thiesse will be aiming for her second medal of the Games after winning silver in mixed doubles.

In the men’s competition, Canada will have a chance at redemption as they face Norway in the semifinals, a repeat of their earlier encounter where Norway emerged victorious. Switzerland, with a perfect 9-0 record, will take on Britain in the other semifinal matchup.

Unfortunately, the hopes of the U.S. men’s team were dashed due to Canada’s loss, while defending gold medalist Sweden also failed to reach the semifinals. Both the men’s and women’s bronze medal games will take place on Friday night, with the gold medal games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday respectively.
