Tatiana Schlossberg, Caroline Kennedy’s daughter, reveals terminal cancer diagnosis

Tatiana Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy, bravely shared her heartbreaking journey in an emotional essay published in The New Yorker. The 35-year-old journalist and granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy revealed that she has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, specifically acute myeloid leukemia, which was discovered after she gave birth to her second child.

In her candid essay, Schlossberg recounted how her doctor noticed an abnormality in her white blood cell count after giving birth to her daughter. She was diagnosed with a rare mutation called Inversion 3, a devastating blow for someone who considered themselves one of the healthiest people they knew.

Doctors informed Schlossberg that she would need months of chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant to have any chance of survival. She spent five weeks at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City before transferring to Memorial Sloan Kettering for the transplant.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy at home and joining a clinical trial for CAR-T-cell therapy, a type of immunotherapy, Schlossberg was given the heartbreaking news that she only had a year left to live. Throughout this challenging journey, she leaned on the unwavering support of her husband, George Moran, who tirelessly cared for her and their two young children.

Schlossberg expressed her gratitude for her family, including her parents and siblings, who have been by her side every step of the way. Their love and support have been a source of strength for her during this difficult time.

As she reflected on her children and the precious moments she shares with them, Schlossberg acknowledged the uncertainty of what lies ahead. She expressed a bittersweet hope of remembering these moments forever, even though she knows that may not be possible. Despite the uncertainty of what comes after death, she remains resilient and determined to cherish every moment with her loved ones.

Schlossberg’s poignant essay serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we hold dear. Her bravery and resilience in the face of adversity inspire us all to embrace each day with gratitude and love.
