TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra Hands-On: Totally Different
TCL has introduced a new addition to its Nxtpaper lineup with the launch of the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra. This device stands out from the crowd with its focus on the display, offering something different in a market saturated with similar-looking smartphones.
The most striking feature of the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra is its large 7.2-inch display, built using Nxtpaper 4.0 technology. This display is designed to replicate the feel of paper, reducing glare and reflections while also being easy on the eyes. The display features a paper-like texture that sets it apart from the glossy screens found on most smartphones. Additionally, the display is capable of reducing blue light emissions and flicker, aiming to protect your circadian rhythms and promote better sleep.
One unique feature of the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra is the Max Ink Mode, which can be activated using a switch on the side of the phone. This mode simplifies the display, cutting out colors and distractions to provide a reading experience similar to an e-reader. The phone boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, although some may find the resolution a bit soft given the size of the display.
Powering the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra is the Dimensity 7400 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The device also houses a large 5200mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, ensuring that it can easily last through a day of use.
On the camera front, the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra features a 50Mp main camera, a 50Mp periscope telephoto lens, and an 8Mp ultrawide lens. While the camera setup may not be the main selling point of the device, it offers decent imaging capabilities for everyday use.
In terms of design, the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra is slim at 7.57mm and relatively lightweight at 227g considering its large screen size. The phone features a plastic build with IP68 protection, making it water-resistant. It is available in two colors, Lunar White and Nebula Black, with the latter sporting a unique sparkle in the camera surround.
The Nxtpaper 60 Ultra runs on Android 15 and promises two Android OS updates and five years of security updates. The device is targeted towards users who prioritize reading and a comfortable display experience over flashy design and vibrant colors. While the availability and pricing details of the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra are yet to be revealed, it is expected to be an affordable mid-range device, likely priced around £300.
In a market dominated by similar-looking smartphones, the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra stands out with its unique display technology and focus on providing a comfortable reading experience. It offers a refreshing alternative for users who seek to escape the harsh glare of modern smartphones and enjoy a more relaxed reading experience on their device.
