Ted Cruz mercilessly mocked for proclaiming, ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles’ in awkward slip-up

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) found himself at the center of controversy on Wednesday after making a cringe-worthy gaffe during a hearing about crime in Democrat-run cities. The conservative senator mistakenly declared, “Let’s stop attacking pedophiles,” sparking widespread mockery and criticism.

During the Senate hearing, Cruz passionately spoke about the need for a “bipartisan agreement” to improve safety in Democrat-run cities. However, his speech took an awkward turn when he stumbled over his words and made the puzzling statement about pedophiles.

“How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop murders,’” Cruz urged. “How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop rape.’ How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles.’”

The senator did not pause to correct himself and quickly shifted the focus to praising President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard in Washington, DC.

Critics wasted no time in lambasting Cruz for his slip-up, with some connecting it to conspiracy theories surrounding the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. One Twitter user demanded the release of the Epstein files, while others labeled Cruz’s comment as a disturbing Freudian slip.

The social media backlash was swift, with sarcastic remarks about the supposed importance of not attacking pedophiles circulating online. Meanwhile, some users pointed out the irony of Cruz’s mistake given the ongoing calls for transparency regarding Epstein’s case.

Despite the uproar, Cruz has not issued a statement clarifying his remarks. The incident served as a reminder of the importance of clear and precise communication, especially in sensitive and high-stakes discussions like those surrounding crime and public safety.
