Teen bystander shot, man stabbed in separate, simultaneous NYC attacks around corner from each other
The streets of Rose Hill were marred by violence on Sunday evening, as an innocent teenage girl fell victim to a stray bullet, while a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the behind in separate attacks just minutes apart. These shocking incidents occurred shortly after the conclusion of the Mexican Day Parade in the vicinity.
The 17-year-old girl was struck by a bullet in her left shoulder at the corner of 27th Street and Park Avenue around 5:01 p.m., as reported by the NYPD. It was revealed that she was not the intended target of the gunfire, making her an unfortunate bystander in the violent turn of events. Meanwhile, just a minute before the shooting, a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the right buttocks at the nearby intersection of 28th Street and Madison Avenue.
Both victims were swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital and are currently in stable condition, thanks to the prompt response of authorities. A person of interest is now in custody in connection with the shooting of the teenage girl, although no official charges have been filed as of yet. This individual reportedly has a history of over 20 prior arrests, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
On the other hand, there have been no arrests made in relation to the stabbing of the 24-year-old man, leaving the authorities with more work to do in order to bring the perpetrator to justice. These two incidents occurred just an hour after the festivities of the Mexican Day Parade concluded, adding a somber note to an otherwise celebratory day.
The NYPD is diligently investigating both incidents, with the belief that they are unrelated and have no connection between them. As the community grapples with the aftermath of these senseless acts of violence, the search for justice and closure continues.
