Terraform Co-founder Do Kwon May Enter a Change of Plea Today

Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon is expected to change his plea in court on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. This development comes after months of legal battles, with Kwon previously pleading guilty to nine felony counts including securities fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and commodities fraud. United States District Judge Paul Engelmayer has been informed of the plea change, marking a significant turning point in the case.

Judge Engelmayer has ordered all parties involved to appear in a New York court for the plea hearing. The court has also instructed Kwon to be prepared to give a narrative allocution that encompasses all elements of the offenses he is pleading guilty to. This allocution is expected to provide clarity and efficiency in the legal proceedings.

Terraform’s Kwon has faced significant challenges in recent years, with heavy losses and asset seizures by law enforcement. The plea bargain could potentially lead Kwon down a similar path as FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence in the U.S.

The impact of Kwon’s plea change on Terra Luna (LUNA) remains to be seen. The project has struggled to regain market share since its collapse, with a market valuation plummeting from over $30 billion to just $109 million. Legal challenges have hindered the project’s recovery, despite the overall rebound in the crypto market.

In the past 24 hours, the price of LUNA has dropped by 3 percent, contributing to a year-to-date decline of 50 percent. The increasing competition in the blockchain space, coupled with low trust in the Terra Luna ecosystem, has weighed down on the token’s bullish prospects. Investors will be closely watching the outcome of Kwon’s plea change and its potential implications for Terra Luna’s future.
