Texas bank robber arrested after trying to rob same branch nearly a decade later

A convicted Texas bank robber has found himself back in trouble after attempting to rob the same bank that landed him in federal prison nearly a decade ago. Christopher McKay, 43, reportedly entered a Wells Fargo in Fort Worth at 10 a.m. on Thursday, claiming he was armed with a handgun and demanding money from employees. However, his plan was foiled, and he left empty-handed, fleeing on foot.

Fortunately, police were quick to respond and apprehended McKay shortly after the failed robbery attempt. It was reported that he was experiencing fentanyl withdrawals at the time of his arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment. McKay now faces charges of aggravated robbery, along with existing warrants for his arrest.

Following his arrest, McKay was booked into the Tarrant County Jail with a bond set at $150,000. This incident marks a troubling return to criminal behavior for McKay, who had previously robbed the same Wells Fargo branch nine years ago. After being apprehended for the initial robbery, he served seven years in federal prison.

The Fort Worth Police Department has emphasized McKay’s history with the bank, highlighting the unusual circumstances of his attempted heist. This bizarre turn of events serves as a reminder of the consequences of criminal behavior and the challenges individuals face when trying to break free from a cycle of crime.
