Texas family of 6, including 2 children, narrowly escape house fire set by hooded arsonist while they slept
A horrifying incident unfolded in Texas last Tuesday when a family of six narrowly escaped a fire that was intentionally set on their porch while they were asleep inside. The arsonist doused the front stoop of their two-story home in Midlothian with gasoline and ignited it in the early morning hours. The entire family, including their 1-year-old baby, was at home when the attack occurred.
The Wilson family, consisting of Darryl Wilson, 52, his wife Wahsheida, and their adult children, had all gathered for summer break when the assailant struck. The couple’s daughter, Malia Rivera, was awake and saw the motion-sensor lights go off before discovering the flames threatening to engulf their living room window. She immediately called 911 and woke up her parents, alerting them to the danger.
Darryl initially thought it was a dream until he saw the fire himself. Wahsheida checked the security footage, which revealed a hooded figure pouring gasoline around the house before setting it ablaze and fleeing the scene. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire with water and pots and pans, emergency crews had to intervene to put out the blaze.
The family was shaken by the incident, with Wahsheida expressing disbelief at the arsonist’s intentions to harm them. They now take turns staying awake at night to keep watch for any further threats as the suspect remains at large. The traumatic experience has prompted the family to consider relocating to escape the lingering fear and anxiety.
Mylah Rivera, the couple’s 25-year-old daughter, is particularly concerned for her 1-year-old daughter and reflects on what could have happened if Malia had not been awake to alert them. The Wilsons are desperate for the perpetrator to be apprehended and face justice for their heinous actions, especially considering the presence of children in the home during the attack.
As they plan their move to a new location, the family hopes to find some semblance of peace and security away from the trauma of the fire. Darryl emphasizes the emotional toll the incident has taken on his family and their urgent need to feel safe again. Their main focus now is on rebuilding their lives and ensuring the safety of their loved ones in the wake of this terrifying ordeal.
