‘The Equalizer’ Canceled After Five Seasons at CBS

CBS Cancels “The Equalizer” Reboot After Five Seasons

CBS has made the decision to cancel the reboot of “The Equalizer” after five seasons, as reported by Variety. The series, which starred Queen Latifah, was the last remaining bubble show on the network. The season finale that aired on May 4 will now serve as the series finale.

This news comes after CBS also canceled the freshman multi-cam “Poppa’s House,” as well as both “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted.” Additionally, a backdoor pilot for a potential “Equalizer” spinoff that aired earlier this season will not be moving forward.

It was not entirely surprising that “The Equalizer” was canceled, as it was on the bubble last season as well. The show is a co-production between CBS Studios and Universal Television, which may have made it a less financially attractive option for CBS, especially at this stage of its run. CBS has already picked up several new drama shows for next season, including a new entry in the “FBI” franchise starring Tom Ellis, as well as the comedy pilot “DMV” to series. They have also ordered spinoffs for “Fire Country” and “Blue Bloods.”

While the Matthew Gray Gubler drama “Einstein” was picked up for next season, CBS has decided to push the show to the 2026-2027 season. The network has also announced renewals for shows like “Ghosts,” “Tracker,” and “NCIS.”

“The Equalizer” was a modern take on the 1980s series, with Queen Latifah playing Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative who assists those in need. The cast also included Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint. The series was developed for television by Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller, based on the original series co-created by Richard Lindheim. Executive producers included Joseph C. Wilson, Queen Latifah, Debra Martin Chase, Shakim Compere, John Davis, John Fox, Loretha Jones, and Rob Hanning.
