The heartbreaking reason Tommy Fleetwood’s wife, stepson missed Tour Championship
Tommy Fleetwood, the English golfer, recently opened up about the absence of his family during his historic win at the Tour Championship last month. Despite their physical absence, Fleetwood’s family was very much top of mind during the momentous occasion. His stepson, Mo Murray, had undergone a major spinal surgery just over a month ago, and his wife, Clare, was by his side aiding in his recovery.
During the tournament, Fleetwood’s stepson was still recovering in the hospital, which prevented them from traveling to Atlanta to witness the victory in person. However, Fleetwood’s son, Oscar, was able to be there to support him as he clinched the $10 million FedEx Cup win, marking his first-ever PGA Tour victory since joining in 2018.
The emotional moment was captured as Fleetwood held up the FedEx Cup trophy at East Lake Golf Club, celebrating his hard-earned success. His wife, Clare, watched from home as she couldn’t be present at the event.
Clare has two sons, Oscar and Murray, from a previous marriage, and they share a son, Franklin, together. Fleetwood revealed that Murray will be attending the BMW PGA Championship this week, showing his support for his stepfather.
The BMW PGA Championship, taking place at the Wentworth Club in England, kicked off on Thursday and will run through Sunday. Fleetwood is set to compete in the event before heading to the Ryder Cup later this month as one of the six automatic qualifiers for Team Europe. Fleetwood was part of the victorious Team Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy.
Despite the challenges his family has faced, Fleetwood’s unwavering dedication to the sport and his loved ones continues to inspire fans and fellow golfers alike. As he embarks on the next chapter of his golfing journey, he carries with him the support and love of his family, making each victory even more meaningful.
