‘The Last of Us’ Finale Reaches 3.7 Million Viewers

“The Last of Us” Season 2 Wraps Up with Strong Viewer Numbers

The highly anticipated second season of “The Last of Us” concluded on Sunday night, attracting a total of 3.7 million viewers across all platforms. While this marked a 30% decrease from the Season 2 premiere, which drew in 5.3 million viewers in April, the season as a whole has been a success, surpassing the viewership numbers of Season 1. To date, Season 2 has garnered an average of 37 million viewers per episode, compared to the 32 million viewers reached by Season 1 after 90 days of viewing.

Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, “The Last of Us” made a huge impact upon its release in January of 2023. The show quickly became a hit, boasting the second-highest HBO premiere viewership in a decade. Additionally, it set a record for the largest increase in viewership between a series’ first and second episodes, with a jump of 5.7 million viewers. The Season 1 finale reached a series high of 8.2 million viewers, with a total of 32 million viewers after 90 days.

The storyline of Season 2 takes place five years after the events of the first season, as Joel and Ellie find themselves in conflict with each other and a world that is even more dangerous and unpredictable than before.

Created and written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the mastermind behind the original video game, “The Last of Us” is executive produced by a talented team including Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells. Halley Gross serves as a writer and co-executive producer. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, Word Games, Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
