‘The Pitt,’ ‘Dying for Sex’ Among 2025 Humanitas Prize Winners

The 2025 Humanitas Prizes celebrated exceptional storytelling that delves deep into the human experience. Hosted by comedian Leah Rudick at the Avalon Hollywood, the event honored writers who explore the complexities of life in their film and television projects.

Among the winners were the “2:00 P.M.” episode of HBO Max’s “The Pitt” and the “It’s Not That Serious” segment of FX’s “Dying for Sex.” These works were recognized for their nuanced and meaningful portrayal of human emotions and relationships. Other honorees included films like “Sing Sing” and “A Real Pain,” as well as the documentary “Patrice: The Movie” and the family-friendly “Inside Out 2.” In total, 52 writers across 10 different categories were nominated for their outstanding contributions to storytelling.

The winners of the 2025 Humanitas Prizes included Joe Sachs for “The Pitt” in the Drama Teleplay category and Kim Rosenstock for “Dying for Sex” in the Limited Series Teleplay category. Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar won in the Drama Feature Film category for “Sing Sing,” while Jesse Eisenberg took home the prize for Comedy Feature Film with “A Real Pain.” Vijal Patel was recognized for his work on the Comedy Teleplay “The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh,” and Alice Oseman won in the Children’s Teleplay category for “Heartstopper.”

In the documentary category, Ted Passon received the award for “Patrice: The Movie,” while the Family Feature prize went to Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein for “Inside Out 2.” The Short Film category was won by Mary Pat Bentel for “The Cockroach.” Additionally, the Documentary (Docuseries, Single Episode) award went to “Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae” for the episode “Wounded Knee 1973.”

The event also honored Lena Waithe with the “Voice for Change Award,” which recognizes individuals who champion bold and visionary storytelling. Waithe received the award from TV producer and writer Mara Brock Akil. Furthermore, awards were presented for the 2025 New Voices Fellowship, The David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award, and The Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award.

Starz original programming president Kathryn Busby presented the Starz #TakeTheLead Award to Taylor Martin for her work on “The Blacklist.” The New Voices Fellowship recipients, including Nicole Lynn Cohen, Meg Dudley, V Marks, Drew McInturff, and Ariana Newhouse, were also recognized for their contributions to storytelling.

The event also highlighted the College Screenwriting Awards winners, Mohannad Salman and Yeajoon Cho, who received the David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award and the Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award, respectively. Overall, the 2025 Humanitas Prizes celebrated the power of storytelling to inspire change and foster understanding in our society.
