‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Day of the Jackal’ Among Banff Rockie Awards Winners

The Banff Rockie Awards International Program Competition celebrated its winners on Monday night, with standout shows like Peacock’s “The Day of the Jackal” and “We Are Lady Parts” taking home top honors in the English-language drama and comedy series categories. Other big winners included perennial favorite “The Simpsons” for animated series and the Disney+ documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” for arts & culture.
The UK emerged as the country with the most wins, taking home a total of 16 awards, followed by the US with nine. This year, the Banff World Media Festival combined its Banff Gala Awards and Rockie Awards International Program Competition into a single ceremony, marking a first for the event.
The Gala Awards recognized visionary executives, creatives, and changemakers shaping the global media landscape, while the Rockie Awards International Program Competition focused on outstanding TV and digital media content. With 152 nominees from 22 countries across 30 categories, this year’s competition showcased a diverse range of international talent.
Notable honorees at the gala included Hans Zimmer, renowned composer of blockbuster films like “Dune: Part One” and “Gladiator,” who received the career achievement award. Stephan James, known for his work in “If Beale Street Could Talk,” was presented with the Canadian Award of Distinction for his outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry.
Additionally, Phil Rosenthal, creator of “Somebody Feed Phil” and “Everybody Loves Raymond,” was honored with the Award of Excellence for his exceptional body of work. South Korea was also recognized as the country of honor at this year’s event, a distinction accepted by KOCCA president Hyun Suk Yoo.
The awards ceremony, held at the Banff Springs Hotel, was hosted by “Canada’s Drag Race” Season 1 winner Priyanka. Among the winners in the International Program Competition were shows like “The Graham Norton Show” for Comedy & Variety, “The Traitors UK” for Competition Series & Game Shows, and “Black Twitter: A People’s History” for Docuseries.
In the Children & Youth category, standout winners included “My Life in Versailles” for Animation: Children, “Tiddler” for Animation: Preschool, and “Windcatcher” for Live Action: Children. In the Documentary & Factual genre, “Jim Henson Idea Man” took home the prize for Arts & Culture, while “Sugarcane” won in the Crime & Investigative category.
