‘The Studio’ and ‘The Penguin’ Win Location Managers Guild Awards
The 12th annual Location Managers Guild International Awards took place on Saturday evening at the Eli & Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, Calif. The event honored outstanding achievements in location scouting and management in the film and television industry.
Among the winners were Emmy contenders “The Studio,” “1923,” and “The Penguin.” “The Studio” was filmed in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, “1923” in Texas and Montana, and “The Penguin” in New York City, spanning various neighborhoods such as Harlem, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Chinatown, and Yonkers. Another winner was Orient Express: “Artisan of Travel,” which was filmed in Belmond and took home the Outstanding Commercial award.
The Motion Picture Awards went to “A Complete Unknown,” filmed throughout New Jersey, and “Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning,” which was shot in England, Norway, South Africa, and Malta. Additionally, the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission received the Outstanding Film Commission Award for their work on “A Complete Unknown.”
During the ceremony, hosted by actress and producer Rachael Harris, various awards were presented to highlight the creative use of filming locations in enhancing the tone, character, and narrative of the stories told in international features, television shows, and commercials.
Renowned actor Kevin Costner was honored with the Eva Monley Award for his contributions to the industry through projects like “Dances with Wolves,” “The Bodyguard,” “Field of Dreams,” “Yellowstone,” and “Horizon: An American Saga.” Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles also received the LMGI Humanitarian Award for their dedication to fulfilling the wishes of children and their families.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to veteran location manager Ilt Jones, recognized for his work on various blockbuster films including “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Inception,” “Iron Man 3,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Captain Marvel,” and the “Transformers” franchise.
The event was attended by industry professionals and celebrities, with presenters including Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Carmen Christopher, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Kate Linder, and Claire Brooks. The winners of various categories were announced, showcasing the best in locations for period and contemporary television series, feature films, and commercials.
Overall, the Location Managers Guild International Awards celebrated the art of location scouting and management in the entertainment industry, highlighting the crucial role these professionals play in bringing stories to life on screen.
