NEW YORK (AP) — The Trump family has announced the licensing of their name to a new mobile phone service, adding to a series of ventures introduced during Donald Trump’s time in the White House, raising ethical concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
Eric Trump, overseeing The Trump Organization, revealed that the new venture, Trump Mobile, will offer phones manufactured in the U.S. with a call center based in the country.
The launch of the new mobile phone service, named T1 Mobile, comes amidst a flurry of real estate deals in the Middle East and Vietnam, further entangling the Trump brand in potential conflicts of interest.
Despite criticism and ethical concerns, Eric Trump emphasized the importance of providing consumers with a phone service that aligns with their values and offers quality and affordability.
The service will offer a gold-colored phone, the T1 Phone, priced at $499, designed and manufactured by a third-party company. The monthly service, named The 47 Plan, priced at $47.45, will include free texts and calls, unlimited data, roadside assistance, and telehealth services.
By opting for a licensing model, the Trump family aims to mitigate risks associated with the new service. However, the success of the venture beyond the president’s supporters remains uncertain.
In addition to the mobile phone service, the Trump family’s media company has announced plans to launch a new exchange-traded fund tied to cryptocurrency prices, expanding their presence in the crypto market.
While the Trump brand has faced challenges and controversies over the years, the family continues to explore new business ventures, leveraging their name and connections.
