Therapuss Podcaster Jake Shane to Star In Hulu Comedy Based on Himself
Jake Shane, known for his popular podcast “Therapuss with Jake Shane,” is set to executive produce and star in a new Hulu half-hour comedy series based on his life. The show, developed by 20th TV, will follow Shane and his best friends as they navigate the challenges of online fame, the impact it has on their friendships, and the tension it creates in their suburban neighborhood.
The untitled Jake Shane pilot will be helmed by “Hacks” writer Genevieve Aniello, who will also serve as an executive producer and writer for the series. Paul Briganti, known for his work on “Saturday Night Live,” will direct and executive produce the pilot. The story is based on an original idea by Shane, Aniello, and Briganti.
Joining the team as executive producers are Alec Berg and Amy Solomon, known for their work on shows like “Barry” and “Silicon Valley” through their overall deal with 20th TV.
Shane’s podcast, “Therapuss with Jake Shane,” has gained immense popularity since its launch in January 2024, becoming one of the top shows on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Shane recently won the 2025 Webby Award for best comedy creator and was included in Forbes’ list of top creators for the year.
The podcast, currently in its second season, has featured a range of guests, including Tate McRae, Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran, and more. Shane also embarked on a North American tour titled “Live With Jake Shane,” making stops in 36 cities, including a performance at Radio City Music Hall with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
In addition to his podcast success, Shane released a debut comedy album in 2024 titled “Puss & Poems,” which reached the top 5 on Billboard’s comedy chart. He also made a guest appearance on the show “Hacks” in a recurring role as a social media manager.
Genevieve Aniello, with credits on “Hacks” and other projects, will bring her expertise to the new series as an executive producer and writer. Paul Briganti, known for his work on “SNL” and other projects, will direct and executive produce the pilot. Alec Berg and Amy Solomon, with a successful track record in the industry, round out the executive producing team.
