Timothy Busfield Facing Arrest Warrant for Child Sex Abuse Charges

Actor and director Timothy Busfield is currently facing two counts of sexual abuse involving a minor in New Mexico after an arrest warrant was issued on Friday.

The investigation centers around twin boys who were actors on the TV series “The Cleaning Lady” in 2022, where Busfield served as the director. One of the boys disclosed to an investigator last fall that Busfield had touched his “private areas” when he was seven years old, and again when he was eight, while they were on set.

According to an Albuquerque police affidavit, the boy expressed that he was “very afraid of Tim and was relieved when he was off set.”

Busfield, known for his roles in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams,” and “Thirtysomething,” directed six episodes of “The Cleaning Lady,” which aired on Fox from 2022 to 2025.

During a phone conversation with police in November, Busfield was questioned about any physical contact with the boys and whether he had picked them up and tickled them. The affidavit states that Busfield mentioned it was likely he had engaged in such behavior, but later claimed he did not recall picking up those specific boys.

The 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s office has declined to provide any comments on the ongoing case.

In a separate incident, Warner Bros. conducted an investigation in 2025 after receiving an anonymous complaint through SAG-AFTRA in December 2024. The complaint alleged that Busfield had kissed a boy on the face in the hair and makeup trailer and engaged in inappropriate touching. However, an external investigator hired by Warner Bros. was unable to substantiate the claim.

Albuquerque Police Detective Marvin Brown alleged in the affidavit that Warner Bros. had made it challenging to obtain information for the case. The detective had to obtain a search warrant to access the investigative report, which was delayed for three months.

When attempting to ensure the safety of other child actors on the show, the detective was informed by Warner Bros. that he needed to go through their legal team to speak with employees.

Busfield had reportedly grown close to the boys on set, with reports indicating that he encouraged his children to refer to him as “Uncle Tim.”

The case first came to light in 2024 when a police officer spoke with the boys and their parents following a report from their doctor. At that time, the boys did not disclose any sexual contact, and the police did not pursue charges.

However, in September 2025, one of the children disclosed to his counselor and pediatrician that Busfield had touched him inappropriately. The other brother admitted that he did not like the touching but did not speak up out of fear of getting into trouble.

During his police interview, Busfield claimed that lead actress Elodie Yung had informed him that the boys’ mother sought revenge because her sons were not rehired for the final season. Yung declined to cooperate with the investigation.

An arrest warrant was issued by a judge on Friday, but Busfield’s legal representative has yet to comment on the matter. Warner Bros. has not responded to requests for comment on the case.
