Tommy Tuberville’s Trump-Flattering Presidents’ Day Pitch Goes Awry
Senator Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) attempt to rename Presidents’ Day in honor of President Donald Trump faced backlash. Tuberville shared an image on Monday, digitally adding Trump’s face to Mount Rushmore.
In a social media post, Tuberville suggested renaming the day as ‘President Donald J. Trump Day,’ praising Trump as one of the most influential presidents in modern history.
The proposal was met with ridicule, with critics deeming Tuberville’s move embarrassing. Tuberville, who is running for governor of Alabama, shared the post on his campaign feed.
Despite experts’ concerns about the structural integrity of Mount Rushmore, Trump and his supporters have floated the idea of adding his likeness to the iconic monument in South Dakota’s Black Hills.
