Tony Gonsolin solid in first start since 2023 and Dodgers pound 17 hits in 12-7 win over Marlins

LOS ANGELES — In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 12-7 victory over the Miami Marlins, extending their win streak to five games. Tony Gonsolin made a remarkable return from Tommy John surgery, pitching six solid innings and allowing just three runs on six hits. He struck out nine batters and did not issue any walks in his 77-pitch outing.
The Dodgers offense came alive with a total of 17 hits in the game. Mookie Betts was a key contributor, driving in four runs. In the sixth inning, the Dodgers turned a narrow 4-3 lead into an 8-3 advantage in just four pitches. Betts crushed a two-run triple off the center-field wall, followed by a two-run homer from Freddie Freeman. Betts also had a two-run single in the third inning.
On the other side, Cal Quantrill struggled on the mound for the Marlins, giving up four runs on six hits in just 3 2/3 innings. He now holds a 1-7 record with an 8.22 ERA in nine appearances against the Dodgers. Kyle Stowers provided some offense for Miami, hitting two home runs in the game.
Max Muncy, who had been struggling at the plate, finally broke out with his first home run of the season, a 433-foot blast to center field off Quantrill in the second inning. Muncy, known for his power hitting, had been batting just .180 with four RBIs in 28 games before this game. He also added a triple in the seventh inning.
In the ninth inning, Stowers hit his second homer of the game, and Liam Hicks hit a three-run double off Yoendrys Gomez. However, the Dodgers defense came up big as Teoscar Hernández made a diving stop to secure the final out of the game.
Hernández continued his hot streak at the plate, collecting three hits in the game. He is now batting .425 with four homers, six doubles, 15 RBIs, and nine runs in his last nine games.
Looking ahead, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound for the Dodgers in their upcoming series opener against the Atlanta Braves, facing off against Grant Homes. The Marlins will host the Oakland Athletics in a three-game series starting on Friday.
Overall, the Dodgers showcased their offensive firepower and solid pitching to secure another impressive victory, maintaining their spot as one of the top teams in the league.
