Top Chinese Bitcoin Mining Companies To Set Up Shop in US To Avoid President Trump’s Tariffs: Report
The top three manufacturers of Bitcoin mining machines in the world are reportedly moving their production facilities to the United States. According to Reuters, Bitmain, Canaan, and MicroBT, which collectively control over 90% of the global market for Bitcoin mining rigs, are relocating their manufacturing operations to the US in order to avoid the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
Bitmain, the largest of the three companies, began producing mining rigs in the US in December as a strategic response to Trump’s election victory. Canaan also initiated trial production in the US following the announcement of tariffs, while MicroBT is actively pursuing a localization strategy to mitigate the impact of tariffs.
Meanwhile, US-based Bitcoin mining startup Auradine is advocating for restrictions on Chinese hardware supplies in order to stimulate competition in the market. Sanjay Gupta, the company’s chief strategy officer, points out that while a significant portion of Bitcoin mining occurs in North America, the vast majority of mining hardware is sourced from China, creating a geographic imbalance in supply and demand.
Gupta also raises concerns about the security risks posed by Chinese mining rigs connected to US electrical grids. However, Canaan’s senior executive, Leo Wang, dismisses these concerns, stating that the rigs are only functional when used for Bitcoin mining and do not pose a threat to security.
As the Bitcoin mining industry continues to evolve, the shift towards US-based manufacturing facilities could have significant implications for the market. By diversifying production locations and reducing reliance on Chinese suppliers, companies like Bitmain, Canaan, and MicroBT are aiming to navigate the challenges posed by tariffs and geopolitical tensions.
