‘Tragic event’: Indiana sheriff’s deputy fatally struck while assisting stranded motorist

A tragic incident occurred in Indiana when a semitruck fatally struck a sheriff’s deputy who was assisting a stranded motorist along Interstate 69. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office suffered a heartbreaking loss with the death of Corporal Blake Reynolds. The deputy responded to a call about a disabled vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, Reynolds found a semitruck partially blocking the roadway and stopped behind the vehicle to provide assistance and protection for the driver.

Unfortunately, while Reynolds was outside his vehicle with his emergency lights activated, another semitruck lost control and collided with both the deputy’s vehicle and the disabled semitruck. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, Reynolds succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the truck that struck Reynolds was taken to a local hospital for surgery, and his current medical condition remains unknown.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is withholding further details about the crash to respect the ongoing investigation and the privacy of Reynolds’ family. Reynolds, who joined the sheriff’s office in 2022, was praised for his hard work, professionalism, and leadership during his time of service. His untimely passing is a significant loss to his family, colleagues, and the community he served with pride, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face while carrying out their duties to protect and serve the community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and colleagues of Corporal Blake Reynolds during this difficult time.
