Travis Decker potentially spotted by family in vast Idaho forest
Travis Decker, the alleged child murderer accused of killing his three daughters, may have been sighted in a vast Idaho forest over the weekend. According to reports from the US Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force, a family camping in the Bear Creek area of the Sawtooth National Forest spotted a man matching Decker’s description in the expansive wilderness.
The family described the man as standing between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10, with black gauged earrings, a ponytail, an overgrown beard, and wearing a black mesh cap, cream-colored shirt, black shorts, and a black backpack. The family did not approach the individual and avoided making eye contact, as per reports from KIVITV.
Cabin owners in the area have been alerted to the possibility of Decker’s presence in the vicinity. Decker, a white man standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 190 pounds, is wanted for the alleged murder of his three daughters – Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 – in Washington state.
A former US Army member and trained wilderness survivalist, Decker was last seen with his daughters on a planned visitation in late May. When he failed to return with the girls, they were reported missing. The girls were tragically found dead at a campground in Wenatchee, with plastic bags over their heads and zip ties around their wrists. Decker’s abandoned truck, with bloody handprints on the tailgate, was also discovered at the scene.
Decker’s dog was found alive and taken into care by the Humane Society. The girls were determined to have died from suffocation. Despite extensive search efforts by local, state, and federal agencies across rugged terrain, Decker remains at large.
With his military training and survival skills, authorities have warned that Decker is an adept outdoorsman and potentially armed and dangerous. He faces charges of murder, kidnapping, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The US Marshals Service is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
While Decker is considered a threat, authorities have stated that they do not believe he poses a danger to the public. The search for Travis Decker continues as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to bring him to justice.
