Troy Guard to open restaurant at 1900 Lawrence in 2027

Troy Guard Announces New Restaurant Concept Coming to Downtown Denver

Renowned restaurateur Troy Guard is set to bring a “totally new” dining concept to downtown Denver at 1900 Lawrence, a 30-story office tower where he recently secured a lease. This marks Guard’s first Colorado opening since relocating to Houston over a year ago.

Despite not initially planning to open another establishment in Denver, Guard couldn’t pass up the opportunity presented by the prime location. He expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “It’s a good deal and a great opportunity. And the opportunities to open in Denver are becoming increasingly rare as it’s not my favorite place to do business right now.”

The new restaurant, set to debut in spring 2027, will occupy a 7,000 square foot space, which includes a 1,500 square foot patio. While Guard remained tight-lipped about specific details regarding the name and menu, he did reveal that discussions with Riverside Investment Partners, the developers of 1900 Lawrence, had been ongoing for a couple of years.

In addition to his forthcoming venture in Denver, Guard will also be expanding his steakhouse brand, Guard and Grace, to Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of Riverside’s development project in the area.

Despite acknowledging the challenges within Denver’s restaurant industry, Guard expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the landlord at 1900 Lawrence, which enabled the new establishment to come to fruition. This will be Guard’s sixth location in downtown Denver, adding to his portfolio that includes Guard and Grace, HashTAG, a wine bar, and two Bubu locations.

Guard hinted at potential changes to his local footprint, with the recent closure of Big Wave Taco and several lease renewals approaching within the next two years. The decision to renew or close these locations is still pending.

While Guard currently resides in Houston, he emphasized that his TAG Restaurant Group remains headquartered in Denver, with frequent visits to the city. Looking ahead, Guard expressed a willingness to collaborate with city leaders and partners to enhance Denver’s appeal to small- and midsized businesses.
