Cornell University has reached an agreement with the Trump administration to restore hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding, bringing an end to a civil rights investigation prompted by allegations of antisemitism on campus.
In a statement, university president Michael I. Kotlikoff emphasized the importance of the research partnership between Cornell and the federal government in furthering the university’s core mission and contributions to the nation’s health, welfare, and economic and military strength.
The deal not only resolves the civil rights probe but also secures the university’s commitment to academic freedom, independence, and institutional autonomy, which are integral to its excellence.
As part of the agreement, Cornell has agreed to pay $30 million to the government and invest an additional $30 million in its agriculture and farming efficiency programs. This investment will further enhance the university’s renowned programs in these areas.
