Trump Border Czar Says ‘Large Contingent’ Of ICE Agents Is Headed To Chicago
Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, announced plans on Thursday to deploy a significant number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to Chicago, as well as increase enforcement operations in “sanctuary cities” across the United States. These cities have policies that limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, making them targets for the Trump administration’s efforts to boost deportation numbers.
Homan specifically mentioned Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle as cities where operations will be intensified due to their refusal to work with ICE. A recent CNN report indicated that Chicago could be the next focus of immigration enforcement efforts, with armored vehicles and federal agents expected to begin a major operation by September 5.
Discussions are also underway about utilizing a naval base near Chicago to support ICE operations, according to Homan. The administration’s actions have already had severe consequences in cities like Los Angeles, where workplace raids and arrests have increased, leading to tragic incidents like the deaths of individuals fleeing immigration agents.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has criticized these raids as reckless and racially motivated, causing fear in communities and disrupting the economy. The Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration in sanctuary cities continues to generate controversy and concern.
