Trump heads to Texas after catastrophic flooding, avoiding criticism he’s heaped on other governors

President Donald Trump made a trip to Texas on Friday in the wake of devastating floods that have left many questioning the response of local officials and the federal government. The floods, caused by heavy rainfall, led to the tragic loss of at least 121 lives, including children at a nearby summer camp.

Accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, the President visited areas affected by the floods, expressing his shock and sadness at the catastrophic flash flooding. He emphasized the need to support the affected families and work closely with Governor Greg Abbott of Texas, a staunch ally of the President.

The search for over 170 missing individuals continues, with thousands of responders from various agencies on the ground in Kerr County. However, questions have been raised about the preparedness and response of local authorities to the escalating weather conditions.

Despite criticism of the administration’s cuts to the National Weather Service, the White House has vehemently denied any blame on President Trump for the floods. The focus has been on providing assistance to the affected areas, with Governor Abbott receiving assurances from the President of swift support and resources.

The federal response to the floods, including the role of FEMA, has also come under scrutiny. While FEMA has been providing support, Acting Administrator David Richardson had not yet visited the affected areas as of Thursday. Secretary Kristi Noem defended the federal government’s role in disaster management, emphasizing the support provided to the state.

Overall, President Trump’s visit to Texas highlighted the need for unity and support in the face of a natural disaster. The administration is committed to assisting the affected communities and ensuring that resources are deployed promptly to aid in recovery efforts.
