Trump Is Repeatedly Booed At U.S. Open
President Donald Trump received a mixed reception while attending the U.S. Open men’s final on Sunday, with boos and cheers echoing through the stadium. Trump was a guest of the luxury watch brand Rolex, causing delays due to heightened security measures for his presence at the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
The delayed start of the match frustrated fans, with hundreds stuck in security lines as they made their way into the stadium. During the national anthem, Trump faced boos from the crowd, although there were some cheers when he was shown saluting from a suite. However, he was booed again when the camera panned to him during a break in the match.
Members of the administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, were also in attendance with Trump and his family. The crowd’s response follows accusations of censorship by the U.S. Tennis Association, which reportedly directed broadcasters not to showcase any disruptions or reactions to Trump’s presence.
Despite requests to filter dissent, ABC and ESPN continued to broadcast the jeers and heckling that occurred during Trump’s appearance. This incident adds to a series of occasions where the president has faced similar backlash at sporting events, including the 2019 World Series and the recent FIFA Club World Cup.
Please note that a correction has been made to indicate that Trump was booed at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year.
