Trump mocks Al Sharpton with unflattering snap as calls for probe into his ‘lowest rated’ show
President Trump took to Truth Social to mock Rev. Al Sharpton, posting an old and unflattering photo of the reverend from around 1988. In his lengthy rant, Trump called for an investigation into how Sharpton still has a TV show, which he claimed is the “lowest rated” in history. The former president urged the Federal Communications Commission to revoke broadcast licenses from NBC and ABC.
In his post, Trump reminisced about his past interactions with Sharpton, claiming that the reverend was once a major fan of his. He alleged that Sharpton would ask him to attend his rallies to boost attendance, as he could draw large crowds. Trump also brought up Sharpton’s involvement in the 1987 Tawana Brawley rape hoax, which damaged the reverend’s reputation.
Trump criticized NBC, mistakenly referring to it as Fake News NBC, and its chairman, Brian Roberts, for giving Sharpton a show on MSNBC. He accused Roberts of being too afraid to cancel Sharpton’s show due to political correctness. Trump called on the FCC to investigate NBC’s broadcasting license, claiming that the network airs mostly positive Democrat content. He also targeted ABC, alleging that 97% of its content is negative towards Republicans.
Sharpton’s show, “PoliticsNation,” airs on MSNBC, and Trump has previously suggested that news networks should have their broadcast licenses revoked if they criticize him negatively. The former president has been vocal about his disdain for media outlets that he perceives as biased against him.
Overall, Trump’s online taunting of Sharpton and his calls for FCC investigations into NBC and ABC reflect his ongoing feud with the media and his efforts to discredit those who oppose him. The controversy surrounding Sharpton’s show and the networks’ alleged bias only add fuel to the fire in the ongoing battle between Trump and the media.
