Trump posts discredited conspiracy theories following seizure of 2020 ballots in Georgia

Following the seizure of 2020 election ballots by FBI agents from an elections facility in Georgia, President Donald Trump took to social media to spread discredited conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election as well as the 2016 election. Fulton County officials confirmed that original 2020 voting records were seized during a search warrant at the county’s Elections Hub and Operations Center, with the FBI stating that they were conducting court-authorized activity at the facility without providing further details.

President Trump reposted a claim late Wednesday night alleging that Italian military satellites were used to hack into U.S. voting machines to change votes from Trump to Joe Biden. The post further implicated China in coordinating the operation, with the CIA overseeing it and the FBI covering it up to install Biden as a puppet president.

Amidst a flurry of posts and reposts, Trump continued to make baseless claims about the 2020 election, directly linking the allegations to the FBI’s seizure of ballots in Georgia. He ominously declared, “This is only the beginning. Prosecutions are coming.”

These unsubstantiated claims come in the wake of Trump’s repeated assertions of voter fraud in the 2020 election, particularly in Georgia, which he claims led to his defeat. Despite Georgia officials auditing and certifying the election results, and multiple lawsuits challenging the results being dismissed by the courts, Trump has refused to accept the outcome.

In a bizarre turn of events, Trump also posted false claims about the 2016 election, alleging that Barack Obama falsified intelligence and conspired with foreign powers to overthrow the U.S. government. This claim is not only baseless but also illogical, considering Obama was the sitting president in 2016.

The conspiracy theory involving Italian military satellites is not new, as it was investigated by then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in 2021. The theory was brought to the White House by a mysterious woman known as “The Heiress,” who passed on the information to a national security council official in a supermarket parking lot.

This latest episode is just one in a series of unfounded allegations made by Trump and his supporters regarding the 2020 election. From claims of rigged voting machines to wild theories about foreign interference, the narrative has been rife with misinformation and falsehoods.

It is worth noting that Sidney Powell, a key figure in promoting election fraud conspiracies, was recently convicted of state charges related to election interference in Georgia. Despite this, she seems to be resurfacing, as evidenced by a recent post featuring her with a DOJ official on social media.

As the saga continues to unfold, it is crucial to separate fact from fiction and uphold the integrity of the electoral process. The dissemination of false information only serves to undermine trust in democracy and sow further division among the American people.
