Trump Says Any Warner Bros Deal Should Include Sale of CNN
President Donald Trump recently made headlines with his stance on the potential deal for Warner Bros. Discovery, specifically emphasizing the importance of CNN being sold as part of any agreement. Trump’s comments have stirred up speculation about his preferences for the deal, particularly in relation to Netflix’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Under Netflix’s $82.7 billion deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, the streaming giant would acquire WB’s studios and HBO Max, excluding any of WBD’s TV networks, including CNN. On the other hand, Paramount Skydance, led by David Ellison, has made a rival bid for Warner Bros. Discovery in its entirety, aiming to acquire CNN and WBD’s other cable networks.
During a White House meeting, Trump expressed his belief that CNN should be included in any deal involving Warner Bros. Discovery or sold separately. He criticized the current management of CNN, labeling them as “corrupt or incompetent” and stating that they should not be allowed to continue running the network with proceeds from a deal.
Trump further emphasized his disdain for the individuals in charge of CNN, describing them as a “disgrace” and asserting that it is crucial for CNN to be sold to prevent the spread of what he perceives as false information and lies. His strong opinions on the matter stem from his past actions, such as the Justice Department’s attempt to block AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner due to antitrust concerns, reportedly influenced by Trump’s animosity towards CNN.
With Trump’s vocal stance on the matter, the future of CNN and its potential sale as part of a deal for Warner Bros. Discovery remains uncertain. The implications of Trump’s comments on the ongoing negotiations between the involved parties are yet to be seen, but his strong sentiments have certainly added a new layer of complexity to the situation.
