Trump says he expects to lower fentanyl-related tariffs on Beijing, discuss ‘farmers’

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated his intention to reduce tariffs related to fentanyl imports from China as he prepares for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

During a press briefing on Air Force One, Trump highlighted the issue of fentanyl entering the U.S. and indicated that discussions with Xi would cover this topic as well as concerns regarding farmers.

Responding to inquiries about Beijing’s potential pause on rare earth export controls, Trump mentioned that timing had not been finalized but expressed optimism about reaching an agreement.

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal suggested that the U.S. may consider halving the 20% tariffs on fentanyl-related products in exchange for China’s crackdown on the chemicals used in fentanyl production.

Trump described the current state of relations with China as “very good” and expressed confidence in a successful meeting with Xi.
