Trump to host Edan Alexander, American who spent 584 days in Hamas captivity, at White House
The White House announced on Monday that Edan Alexander, the American who was held captive by Hamas for 584 days, will have a meeting with President Trump at the White House to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel.
Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American citizen from New Jersey, was released by the Palestinian terror group in May and is believed to be the last surviving US hostage. The meeting with the president is scheduled to take place in the Oval Office at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
President Trump has been actively working towards a deal to end the conflict in Gaza. He recently introduced a 20-point plan aimed at securing the release of the estimated 48 remaining hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and achieving a temporary ceasefire.
In a statement to The Post, Trump expressed optimism about the ongoing technical discussions surrounding the implementation of the peace plan. He mentioned that the talks have been progressing well and he is hopeful for a positive outcome by the end of the week.
The terror attack on Oct. 7, 2023, carried out by Hamas, resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people in Israel and the abduction of 251 individuals. This tragic event prompted Israel to launch a military campaign against Hamas in an effort to rescue the hostages and eliminate the terror group.
Alexander had previously met with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House in July. During the meeting, Alexander shared that his treatment as a captive had improved following Trump’s election in November 2024.
Upon his release in May, Trump praised Alexander’s freedom as a significant step towards ending the conflict in Gaza. The president acknowledged the efforts of mediators from Qatar and Egypt in facilitating the release of hostages and working towards peace.
In a recent statement, Alexander expressed his intention to return to Israel and rejoin the Israel Defense Forces. He emphasized his commitment to serving his country and continuing his story with a focus on service.
The upcoming meeting between President Trump and Edan Alexander signifies a moment of reflection on the impact of terrorism and the importance of working towards peace and stability in the region.
