Trump to mobilize National Guard in 19 states in crackdown on crime, illegal immigration

The Department of Homeland Security is set to receive assistance from up to 1,700 National Guardsmen in 19 states as part of President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and crime. The mobilization of these troops is aimed at providing support to a federal interagency effort and serving as a visible deterrent force.

The National Guard soldiers will be tasked with various responsibilities, including case management, transportation, logistical support, and clerical functions associated with processing illegal migrants. This may involve collecting personal data, fingerprinting, DNA swabbing, and photographing individuals in ICE custody.

Texas is expected to host the largest presence of National Guard troops, with other states like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee also seeing activations. President Trump has indicated plans to expand the operation to other states like Chicago and New York in the future.

Under Title 32 Section 502F authority, the National Guardsmen will be mobilizing to support federal immigration enforcement efforts, allowing the military to play a more direct role in assisting with mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens. This authority bypasses the limitations of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which restricts the use of the military for civilian law enforcement.

While most deployments are still in the planning stage, operations are expected to begin in states like Idaho, Indiana, and Iowa in the coming weeks. The Guard members will be under the command and control of their respective governors, with their tasks varying depending on the state’s coordination with DHS.

In Washington DC, nearly 2,000 National Guard soldiers have been deployed to support law enforcement efforts in the city. Their mission includes deterring crime and maintaining a visible security presence around the city. Guard members in DC have been authorized to carry weapons if necessary for their duties.

President Trump has expressed the possibility of extending the Guard’s presence in DC and potentially deploying them to other parts of the country. The overall goal is to ensure the safety of the community and address criminal activities effectively. The mobilization of National Guard troops reflects the administration’s commitment to protecting territorial integrity and enforcing immigration policies.
