Twenty-five stolen cars, $300,000 cash and guns

The city of Los Angeles was rocked by the arrest of five individuals in Corona on charges of running a sophisticated cargo theft ring. This operation, which had been under investigation for an extended period, targeted cargo and container chassis used to transport shipping containers for big-rig trucks.

Law enforcement agencies, including the LAPD, executed search warrants on the suspects, leading to the discovery of approximately $5 million worth of stolen goods. The seized items included 84 stolen container chassis, 11 tractors, 25 vehicles, six all-terrain vehicles, and two heavy-duty forklifts with fraudulent vehicle identification numbers. Additionally, over $300,000 in cash, three firearms, and various digital devices were confiscated.

Among the items seized were a collection of luxury and sports cars, showcasing the extent of the criminal operation. The LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division Cargo Theft Task Force collaborated with other agencies such as the Los Angeles Port Police, California Department of Justice Tax Recovery, and the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations Division to bring down the ring.

The five arrested individuals, identified as Jose Del Toro Sr., Maria Ramos, Malissa Del Toro, Jose Del Toro Jr., and Yairet Jimenez, all residents of Corona, have been released pending court dates next month. Each of them faces felony charges of grand theft.

The investigation is ongoing, with more arrests expected as authorities continue to unravel the extent of the operation. Attorneys representing the accused were not immediately available for comment.

This significant bust serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat organized crime and protect businesses from theft and fraud. The collaboration between different agencies highlights the importance of cooperation in tackling such criminal activities.
